BIS-FMCS Certification

Along with providing many types of services, Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) is prevailing the product certification scheme for Foreign Manufacturers as well under Foreign manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), since the year 2000. The ISI Certificate is acknowledged to all the Foreign Manufacturers who manufactures some listed products, for using Standard Mark on items that passes as per Indian Standard. The Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme is applicable to all products except Electronics and IT goods notified by Deity. The Certificate is provided by Foreign Manufacturers Certification Department which is located at Bureau of Indian Standard, New Delhi office. The product which satisfies the requirement of the Indian Standard can get the Certificate under voluntary or mandatory certification. ISI Certificate is issued to the product which is manufactured and tested as per the relevant Indian Standard and then Standard mark is applied to that product.

Registration procedure

Step 1: BIS will scrutinize the application and querieas,if any, will be communicated by email. Once queries are satisfactorily met and application is complete, it will be recorded.

Step 2: Applicant will be informed to provide schedule and organize visit in consultation with the officer nominated by BIS. Visit will be paid to the factory location to carryout verification of manufacturing & testing infrastructure and drawal of samples for independent testing.

Step 3: Responsibility for safe deposition of sample(s) and remittance of testing charges shall lie with the applicant firm. Case would be processed for grant of licence after receipt of satisfactory inspection report & independent test report(s) conforming to applicable Indian Standard(s).

Step 4: Applicant would be required to pay licence fee; advance minimum marking fee and any other outstanding dues, before grant of licence. Agreement & Indemnity Bond would be signed and performance bank Guarantee of USD 10000 from any bank, having RBI approved branch in India would be required to be furnished immediately after grant of licence.

Step 5: Licence would be initially granted for 1 year which would be further renewable for 1 or 2 years.

ISI Certification

The ISI mark is by far the most recognized product quality certification mark in the Indian subcontinent. The ISI mark is issued by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). There are 361 mandatory products which need ISI certification before being sold in India.

How to get ISI Certification in India?

The manufacturer(s) have to complete the testing and documentation required by BIS in order to certify the product with ISI mark. Factory will also require to get physically audited by the BIS officer.

Registration procedure

    • Make sure the appropriation of ISI Code filled-up form for lab testing

    Step 7: Closure Of Non-Conformity (If Any)

    • Rectify the process if inspection team points out
    • Intimate to and get verified by the department

    Step 8: Get The ISI Marking/Registration

    • Got the ISI Marking/Registration
